Pallinup River/Beaufort Estuary

The Pallinup River is a river situated in Western Australia’s Great Southern region. Previously, it was known as the Salt River. It is one of the region’s longest rivers, and its tributaries flow through Borden and Gnowangerup towns. 

The local Noongar people usually call the river as Mara River. It is considered a place of historical importance as the Noongar have camped, fished, and traded along the banks of the river for centuries.

The water in the river is known to be salty, with salinity levels ranging from 3 times when the river flows during the summer to over 50 times in pools.
